Wicked – A Wickedly Awesome Broadway Musical

Wicked – A Wickedly Awesome Broadway Musical
Wicked is a musical based upon the best-selling novel of Gregory Maguire called Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. This great production was staged using the music and lyrics of Stephen Schwartz. It debuted on October 30, 2003 and has since conquered Broadway and its audiences. This musical is produced by Universal Pictures under the direction of Joe Montello and Wayne Cilento leading the musical staging.
Wicked was created to tell the story of the Wicked Witch of the West and how she was originally just a simple and green-faced Elphaba (originally played by Idina Menzel). The story develops and shows the friendship of Elphaba to the Good Witch of the North who is Glinda (played by Kristin Chenoweth). Along the way, this friendship sours as both witches fall for the same guy. Complexities develop as the Wizard enters the scene with his corrupt government. And since this musical is more like a prequel to the classical novel of L. Frank Baum’s Wizard of Oz, it is quite surprising that Elphaba would end up with Fiyero, the love of her life. There were mixed reactions to the musical, even The New York Times gave its share of criticisms but this did not hamper the production people from moving forward and eventually gaining patrons.
Since the Broadway production proved to be successful, there have been productions in other areas like the West End of London, Los Angeles, Chicago, Australia, Tokyo, and Stuttgart. There were also two tours in North America which made the Wicked cast and crew visit 30 cities in U.S. and Canada. Wicked broke box office records all over the globe with tickets selling like hotcakes in the cities of Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and London. West End recorded an all-time-high of ยค100,000 just on its first hour of ticket selling during the musical’s opening. The musical started with $14,000,000 in capital and it has earned this back by December 21, 2004 just a year after its Broadway premier. The first year alone recorded a gross of $56 million and every week of performance proves to give back a million dollars at least! Wicked continues to break records of other musicals and, amusingly, it also goes on to break its own box office records. Wicked tickets continue to sell online and on ticket stores in key cities.

Ukulele Tab – Learn To Play A Bicycle Built For Two

Ukulele Tab – Learn To Play A Bicycle Built For Two
Have you ever played a melody on your ukulele? With the help of tablature notation it is easy to learn melodies. It is time for you to learn tabs!
Tablature notation shows how to put your fingers on your ukulele in order to play melodies or chords. Here is an example of a ukulele tab staff:
———————————
———————————
———————————
———————————
These four lines represent the four strings on your ukulele. The top line indicates the first string which is the bottom string when you play and the string with the highest pitch.
On these lines you will find numbers telling you which frets to press down in order to play the melody. Here is an example:
——–1—0——————-
—3—————————–
———————————
———————————
The number 3 on the second line tells you to press down the third fret on the second string and play the note, with your right hand thumb for example. Numbers 1 and 0 on the first string tells you to play the first fret on the first string and then the open first string, that is, without pressing down a fret.
Now it is time for you to play the melody to A Bicycle Made For Two. I will present the lyrics of the refrain one line at a time. Then I will show you how to play the corresponding melodic phrase with ukulele tabs.
Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do
—3—0—————————————–
————1————-0—1——–1——–
—————–0—2————-2——–0—
—————————————————
I’m half crazy all for the love of you
——–3—0————————–0——–
—3————-1——-0—1—3——–3—
———————-2————————–
————————————————–
It won’t be a stylish marriage
—0—1—0——–3—0————-
—————–3————-3—1—
—————————————–
—————————————–
I can’t afford a carriage
——–0————————-
—3——–1——-1————
—————–2——-2—0—
———————————–
But you’ll look sweet upon the seat
————-0—————–0——-
——–1——–3——–1——-3—
—0——————0—————-
—————————————-
Of a bicycle built for two
—0—1—3—0———————
———————-1—3——-1—
——————————-0——-
—————————————-
Try to play the notes on the first fret with your left hand index finger, the notes on the second fret with your middle finger and the notes on the third fret with your ring finger. When you get used to it you will feel the benefits of it. Believe me!

Who Is Little Lotte? Discovering the Mystery Character in The Phantom of The Opera

Who Is Little Lotte? Discovering the Mystery Character in The Phantom of The Opera
One of the more inexplicable details in the movie version of The Phantom of the Opera consists of Christine confessing to her friend Meg that when she and Raoul were children, he nicknamed her Little Lotte. Lotte was a common diminutive nickname for Charlotte, not Christine. It seems that the dialogue was added simply to explain to the audience why they then sing a duet about Little Lotte.
So why does Andrew Lloyd Webber have a duet about Little Lotte in his musical, then? Simple. It’s in the original story by Gaston Leroux.
Now we get to the crux of the issue. In the 1980′s, when Phantom first debuted, no one knew who Little Lotte was. The offhand reference in the lyrics made no sense to most theatre-goers. But at the time when Leroux was writing his book, readers would have known exactly what he was referring to.
Little Lotte is a parlor game, similar to Twenty Questions, where one person knows the answer, and other people try to guess it. But in this case, the person lists three items, and the others must guess which of the three Little Lotte prefers. The secret is hinted at by the name of the game — Little Lotte prefers items with double consonents in their names.
So now, we have the lyrics: Little Lotte thought am I fonder of dolls or of goblins or shoes?
The correct answer should be dolls because it has the double-L. Since they both know the answer, they don’t bother answering, merely posing the next set.
Or of riddles or frocks? Or of chocolates?
Again, Lotte would prefer riddles, because of the double-D.
You can see why the game quickly fell out of favor. Once you know the secret, there’s no challenge. And that’s why modern theatre-goers needed an explanation for who Little Lotte was.

If you ain’t got Missy and Meth
